enis Boulle was born on the island of Mauritius in the southwestern In- dian Ocean and spent his early years there and in Cape Town,
two-story French villa. Denis and Karen Boulle originally es- tablished de Boulle Diamond & Jewelry with a vision of providing their custom- ers a premier collection of fine jewelry, luxury timepieces of world renowned brands, impeccable service and a beauti- ful and friendly environment. Then and now, these elements make up “The de Boulle Experience™.” de Boulle’s collec- tion of fine diamonds, fine jewelry and timepieces is unsurpassed for elegance, quality and long-term value. Since the beginning, Denis and Karen have worked to ensure that purchasing fine jewelry and luxury timepieces at de Boulle is al- ways informative, fun and very reward- ing. Thirty-two years later, they continue to strive each and every day to make that mission a reality for each customer that walks through the door. The Boulle name has a long tradi- tion of craftsmanship dating back to
the 1700s. Christened by his contem- poraries as “the most skillful artisan in Paris,” André-Charles Boulle’s name is synonymous with the practice of inlay- ing furniture with marquetry of tortoise- shell, pewter and brass. Although he did not invent the technique, Boulle was its greatest practitioner and the technique is commonly referred to as “boulle work.” Boulle also specialized in floral mar- quetry in both stained and naturally col- ored wood. Boulle carried out numerous royal commissions from Henri IV to Lou- is XV, as well as foreign princes and the great nobles, government ministers and financiers. Many of his designs are illus- trated in a book of engravings published around 1720. Some of his works include bureaus, armoires, pedestals and clocks. Over the past 30 years, de Boulle has enhanced the Boulle reputation and fine tradition of craftsmanship through the exquisite de Boulle Collection™ of fine
South Africa. His family eventually moved to England, where he was educat- ed. In 1983, Denis and his wife Karen, also a native of England, originally launched de Boulle Diamond & Jewelry as a small jewelry salon in University Park’s Snider Plaza shopping center. Denis introduced Dallas to luxury watch brands along with fine jewelry collections from Italy. Since then, de Boulle has served thousands of discriminating customers worldwide and has built a reputation as one of the pre-eminent family owned jewelers in the North America. In 2001, de Boulle moved to its cur- rent location – a beautiful, sophisticated 13,600-square foot salon in the style of a

The de Boulle Collection provides a complete range of fine jewelry from beautiful “ev- eryday/every event” diamond earrings to elegant, stately suites of earrings, neck- lace, bracelet and ring for the most spe- cial “red carpet” occasions. de Boulle has carried world-renowned Swiss watchmaker, Patek Philippe for over 20 years and has assembled one of the largest inventories of in the world. de Boulle and Patek Philippe are fami- ly-owned companies; de Boulle’s brand aligns perfectly with Patek in that both represent the epitome of precision, beau- ty and finely crafted luxury goods. de

In 2015, de Boulle expanded into Hous- ton with a Patek Philippe Showroom with select estate pieces and of course the de Boulle Collection. In 1983, Karen Boulle’s love for jewelry took a major turn as she began design- ing pieces. Her inspiration stems from a childhood spent traveling through the world with her family because her father, Edward, was a major in the Gurkhas and in the British Diplomat- ic Service. Karen’s family traveled around Europe and the Far East through plac- es such as: Paris, London, Baghdad and Singapore. At a young age, these beautiful areas had a great impression on her creative inspirations as she saw the towns, vil- lages and markets each with
their own distinct colors, architecture and resourc- es. And it was these fond childhood memories that formed the basis of design for the de Boulle Collection™. In addition to Karen’s travels, her love for nature and animals play a huge part in every piece of the de Boulle Collection. These visual cues can be seen in the hand-hammered gold leaves that adorn bracelets and necklaces in addition to the works that feature finely detailed gem-covered petals, animal prints or tribal beading. Karen believes that the details are what allow designs to make a truly lasting impression. Wheth- er designs are free form, filled with motion or accented with sharp edges, each is made from only the finest organic mate-
10
rials from around the world. It is these metals and gemstones that work together in order to dictate what direction her creativity takes the jewelry designs. The unique qualities of gemstones help dictate not only from where to draw inspiration, but also how to best show the “living” nature of each piece. Karen is naturally drawn to the most unusual and colorful gem- stones such as: jade, moonstone, turquoise and opal. It is with this range of influences that we ask our clients and friends to appreciate the de Boulle Collection. Karen’s unique collection of jewelry pieces has grown to offer a huge range of beautifully crafted, quality pieces with a range of fabulous designs in either 18k gold or platinum that are paired with the highest caliber diamonds & gemstones. In addition to pieces designed by Karen, she works to include special pieces that she hand picks for their unique use of natural gems and minerals around the world. The de Boulle Collec- tion has become not only a creative outlet for Karen, but also an element of de Boulle Diamond & Jewelry that shows our commitment to art, beauty, value and luxury. de Boulle’s line of fine jewelry provides an array of opportunity for each and every piece. The de Boulle Collection provides a range of luxury that remains timeless as fashions and styles change over time. Whether you are looking for ‘everyday, every event’ diamond earrings or more formal jewelry pieces for a large event, the de Boulle Collection makes any occa- sion a special occasion.”

Denis and Karen Boulle established de Boulle Dia- mond & Jewelry in 1983 with a vision of providing their customers a premier collection of fine jewelry, luxury timepieces of world renowned brands, impec- cable service and a beautiful and friendly environ- ment. Then and now, these elements make up “The de Boulle Experience™. “After 33 years of servicing the Dallas market, we are thrilled to expand our brand with our new location in Houston,” said de Boulle CEO, Denis Boulle. “The new store will showcase The de Boulle Collection, designed by Karen Boulle, the finest diamonds and colored stone jewelry and the world’s most admired and prestigious watchmaker, Patek Philippe.” The store reflects Denis and Karen Boulle’s personali- ties. It evokes their elegance and refinement as well as their warmth and graciousness. It also has a welcoming quality similar to the Dallas location. Special elements include the storefront with its glisten- ing golden metalwork and glowing display windows; to the store interior with its refined, leather- wrapped display cases, Baldinger chandeliers, artisan plaster, onyx walls, and herringbone-patterned oak floors. Every element is an artful mixture of contemporary and traditional with luxurious furniture, fabrics and finishes from Kravet, Donghia, and Holly Hunt. The store is intimate in size, but the open floorplan will accommodate special events and its custom bar and lounge add a unique atmosphere. “When the opportunity arose in an extraordinary new luxury retail hub, we were quick to take advan- tage of it,” he said. “We are excited to enter the Hous- Bringing the de Boulle Experience to Houston

ton market and look forward to meeting a new clien- tele that will add to our longtime Houston clients and friends.” Indeed, the independent jewelry house will open in September in the new 14-acre retail destina- tion River Oaks District, slated to fundamentally alter Houston’s luxury landscape with the Oliver McMillan -designed development. de Boulle has carried Patek Philippe for over 23 years and has assembled one of the largest inventories of in the world. “de Boulle and Patek Philippe are family-owned companies; de Boulle’s brand aligns perfectly with Patek in that both represent the epitome of precision, beauty and finely crafted luxury goods,” adds Boulle. “The opportunity to open a second location alongside Patek, puts de Boulle on a path for continued growth.” In addition, Denis Boulle will introduce the de Boulle Experience™ to Houston with his vision of providing customers a premier collection of fine jewelry, impec- cable service and a beautiful and friendly environment. Patek Philippe As the last Geneva-based, family owned watch manu- facturer, Patek Philippe’s remarkable history spans over 175 years. The company’s reputation for providing rare, high quality, hand-finished timepieces known to last for generations continues to drive watch enthusiasts to the brand. Patek Philippe’s clientele include heads of state, royalty, Fortune 500 CEOs, celebrities and connoisseurs around the world. The rich legacy that these two re- spected and trusted brands share will be reflected in the Patek Philippe Showroom at the River Oaks District. “It is rare to find partners like de Boulle who share sim- ilar ideals and fundamental direction. Because of Patek Philippe’s limited production, in the past 10 years it has been rare to consider a new point of sale,” said Patek Philippe President, Larry Pettinelli. “However, we are very pleased to share a new project with one of our lon-

gest standing, trusted partners. We think the Houston mar- ket has tremendous potential and we are confident that the de Boulle family will represent us in the highest manner.” As part of the consummate service that will be provided, sales associates will undergo extensive training by Patek Philippe to ensure their knowledge of the company’s history, values and product. The Patek Philippe Showroom at the River Oaks District will feature one of four Calatrava wristwatches with wood mar- quetry dials. The decoration of these limited edition wrist- watches was inspired by old postcards of Lake Geneva with its traditional barques. Each dial required up to 166 pieces of wood and 45 incrustations of 15 to 30 different species of wood, each of which was cut to shape, and assembled on a plate of solid gold. In addition, the showroom will showcase a rare enamel handcraft of ultimate luxury- the Patek Philippe Dome Clock depicting mallard ducks. Exquisitely made with passion and perfection, the pieces are built with superb move- ments and hand-enameled individually. Patek Philippe was founded in 1839 by Antoine Norbert de Patek and Jean-Adrien Philippe (1845) and quickly became the standard for fine watch making around the world. In 1932 the Stern family who manufactured the dials for Patek Philippe, officially purchased the company. Thierry Stern leads the company today, representing a fourth generation of ownership and management.

A He r i t a g e o f C r a f t s m a n s h i p Holland & Holland guns are celebrated throughout the world as the perfect combination of artistry and craftsmanship. To un- derstand why, you need simply pick one up, balance it in your hands, and allow your eyes to take in every detail of its lines. It displays a purity of design and a functional simplicity that is found more frequently in nature than in the creations of man. Swing and mount the gun to your shoulder and, immediate- ly, your visual sensation is matched by such perfect handling that you know the gun is ideally suited to its purpose. Such an achievement does not come into being by evolution alone, even though Holland & Holland guns and rifles trace their lineage back to the year 1835. Its other parent is curiosity, the desire of the craftsman and gunmaker to see whether an improvement can be made on accepted methods. The Holland & Holland factory, located in London not far from Paddington Station, is a true example of a place where the Best London guns are built in the traditional way. Now, over a hundred years later, the building is still ideally suited to it’s task, although new paint adorns the outside and new equipment adorns the inside. It is a tall, slender building with large windows for maximum light. On one side the ac- tioners take advantage of the early morning light while on the other side the engravers prefer to use the afternoon light for their craft. As the well known gun author Michael McIntosh has writ- ten,"If Michaelangelo had a jackhammer, he would have used it to great advantage, and his finished sculptures would still be and look the same beautiful works of art.” This is equally true for traditional gun manufacturing today. While machines were always used where possible, for exam- ple, for riffling the barrels, today we use the most modern CNC equipment and CAD design features. Yet, this is combined with all the traditional gun making methods. Filed actions to great precision using the "oil black" method, hand struck bar- rels, handshaped stocks and checkering, etc. Depending on the model of gun, from 650 man hours to well over 1250 man hours will be involved making it. No part of a Holland & Holland gun is interchangeable, it is always made especially for the gun down to the smallest pin! Combine these abilities with the quality of steel available today, and it will be no surprise that are dedicated and enthusiastic craftsmen are building the best guns ever. The Holland & Holland Gun Room at de Boulle Dallas oc- cupies the second floor of the store and includes new and pre- owned Holland guns, clothing and accessories.
